One-day workshop on “Women Empowerment – Entrepreneurship in Garment Construction”

The Department of Fashion Technology, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized a one-day workshop on “Women Empowerment – Entrepreneurship in Garment Construction” on 5th April 2025. The workshop was exclusively designed for the non-teaching women staff and students of the college, with the aim of equipping them with basic garment construction skills and encouraging them to explore entrepreneurial avenues in the field of fashion and tailoring. 25 women staff and students from different departments of the college attended the workshop.
Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal appreciated the initiative taken by the department and IIC. In his address, the principal emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment through skill-based learning. He stated that empowerment begins with education and skills. By learning practical and creative skills like garment construction, women can take confident steps toward self-reliance and entrepreneurship. He congratulated the Department of Fashion Technology and IIC for initiating such a meaningful program for the non-teaching staff. Head of the department, Dr. Veenu Jain shared the vision behind organizing the workshop. She emphasized the importance of skill development among women and how such initiatives can empower them to explore alternative income-generating opportunities. Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Coordinator of Institution’s Innovation Council highlighted the role of IIC in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the institution. He remarked that innovation starts from the grassroots and this workshop is a step toward transforming skills into self-sustained ventures. He appreciated the enthusiasm shown by participants to learn.
Expert faculty from the department, Mr. Rahul and Ms. Amanjot Kaur conducted interactive sessions covering essential aspects of garment construction, such as fabric knowledge, measurement techniques, basic stitching etc. The participants were provided with hands-on experience under guided supervision to ensure effective learning.
The participants shared their positive experiences and expressed their eagerness to attend more such training sessions in the future.
